The "Harvest"

So we hauled up our carrots...

First I'm going to show you a photo of my father's veggies.

Dad's Harvest - taken on my Blackberry.

The carrot is 16 inches long. And that is a potato next to it.

Now here are our carrots.

That is a regular sized #2 pencil - unfortunately - not a giant novelty sized pencil.

Our entire carrot harvest fit into one Tupperware container...

... half full. (that's LN giving his seal of approval - or something).

Yes that is a regular, non-giant pencil next to my carrots. How's that for a crop? LOL!
But this is our first time, and we learned and next year we will do better.

They were really tasty though! Made a great snack!

Farmer Nerd

LN and I can honestly say that we "made" our salad! Well... mostly. We finally have a harvest! Last week we made a salad out of our own lettuce and tomatoes (and other stuff we bought at the store - but never mind that).
We also have pole beans that I harvested today and plan to make a yummy side dish out of, and garlic that should be ready any day (week) now! The carrots are... well... not doing so great, and the broccoli is a bust.

PICTURES!! YAY!

The garden!

 LN's bum. Tee hee!

Tomatoes ripening!

Our first harvest! 5 cherry tomatoes!

 Beans!

The head of lettuce we ate!

OH MY GOD! WHAT IS THAT FIRE BALL IN THE SKY?!

It's the sun! Holy crap where did that come from?
Well finally, it's a beautiful day here. The last time I wore shorts was July 12th.
Today, I am pleased to say, I am wearing Capri pants and spent pretty much the entire day at the garden!

Oh our poor garden.

This year we decided that we were going to plant veggies. So my wonderful LN made a 4' X 4' box and filled it with topsoil and compost, and sprinkled in a little bone meal. We then went to a local farm and bought a tomato plant, 3 lettuce plants, 2 broccoli plants and a rosemary plant. We also planted a few rows of carrots and some pole beans.

We had originally planned on growing everything from seed, but because June's weather was crap we got a late start. In fact June and July have lovingly been referred to as Juvember and August, so far has been Fogust.
